Trump talked about the crimes he was committing while he knew he was being recorded.

People keep saying that makes him an idiot.

The harsher reality is that he was convinced -- based on decades of experience getting a pass on his criminality -- that he could do anything with impunity.

He could still get away with it, because we still don't know if our institutions will hold firm against his cult's rage. And that cult includes essentially the entire Republican party.
