In case you missed it, Mastodon now lets you edit posts 🥳

You can edit any post you've made, and it will send a notification to people who have already interacted with it to prevent any hijinks or shenanigans. It also lets people see the previous versions.

You can access it through your server's website and some third party apps, for example iPhone/iPad app Toot! and Android app Fedilab.

(The official app doesn't yet support it, so it's another good reason to check out third party apps.)

@TonyStark The only difference I see between the GOP of old (post Reagan) and now? They’re saying the quiet part out loud. They’re now dealing in the politics of every single “ism” out there. They’re desperately trying to create the “other” for vilification. They no longer govern, they only incite violence & pump up the rhetoric to whip their “base” into a frothing frenzy. So many don’t see it this way and that’s a real danger.

Grad students in the #UCStrike picket line were chanting:
MY NECK
MY BACK
WE DESERVE A FAIR CONTRACT

Condemning a GOP presidential candidate for dining with a neo-Nazi and holocaust denier should be the easiest thing for Republicans to do. Their refusal to do so makes clear how much Trump has succeeded in normalizing this dangerous behavior.

I run a small volunteering initiative, together with a colleague from Poland, that offers free online language lessons to Ukrainians 🇺🇦

If you'd like to teach English, for only one hour every TWO weeks, please consider applying!

If you speak Ukrainian or Russian to any degree, and/or if you have teaching experience - you'll be given priority❗

Boosts are appreciated 🙏🏻

Getting started with #mastodon and being an #edutooter #edtech

tech4teaching.org/wpblog/?p=43

I'm wondering how many fellow #edutooters are leaving the bird site.

As you get older, the list of "Not *this* shit again!" gets longer.

If you're wondering why older folks are more grumpy.

There is a big difference between gamifying and game-based learning. A lot of discussion goes on about the relative benefits and drawbacks of each.

Welcome! 🖖 😀

Some tips to connect with #Librarians:

1) Add #K12Librarian hashtag to your toots/posts;

2) Join the K12Librarian List at go.mgpd.org/K12Librarian;

3) Follow and include @K12librarian group in every library related post and that will send the toot to everyone who follows it no matter what Mastodon instance they are on;

4) Add hashtags like #K12Librarian your toots. 🤩

5) Finally, check out these “tootorials” at go.mgpd.org/feditoots for quick tips. Don’t be afraid to boost toots/posts and share a hashtag rich #Introduction with others with that hashtag. :-)

Here is that same article from @Jelaniya on Apple News as one way to get around the website’s paywall.

Absolutely agree: good instructors are a vital. I mention private ed because they are the ones focused on teaching (instead of research) in Brazil (where I come from) and many countries. That's not to say that public Ed can't attract and value good instructors: I think they should. But the current reality that I can see is not that, unfortunately.

Seasonal reminder: Alcohol is a completely legal drug that destroys lives, relationships and families. Don't make it hard for people who are trying to stay sober to enjoy festivities and functions.

@nd_acolyte @edmunds_t @edutooters @academicchatter we are programmed to learn through fun and play from a very early age. The idea that this should not be part of our approach to teaching/education is frankly ridiculous.

Hello all,
Please boost this toot to spread it around.
The link is to a formal logic textbook which I have been compiling and expanding. I have been the only one editing/fact-checking it, so I would love to have other eyes look it over or even play-test it in the classroom. It also has an OER and open-source course companion, Carnap.io, if you would like to use that.

When people travel to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small.

Few people think that they can radically change the future by doing something small in the present.

This is the only real time travel paradox.

If Republicans think "mental health" is the biggest issue then why are they so intent on arming them with the most lethal weapons known to man?

Where’s the lie? 🤔

For those in the #EdTech or academic spaces, I've noticed that Humanities Commons (hcommons.org/) has a Mastodon instance:

(If you sign up, they'll give you a website hosting as well.)
