After a lifetime of being an athlete, now that I'm healthy enough (?!) in my long covid journey to consistently work out again, every workout continues to be incredibly emotionally difficult. I had no idea how strong and amazing I was until it evaporated seemingly overnight. Physical activity has always been a deep way that I found peace and now it's like a battleground.
You have to dig deep to find peace inside of trying hard but it's still there. Glad to be alive and trying.

The Emmett Till casket display, which bowled me over the first time I saw it, almost brought me to tears today. Something about the photo of Emmett smiling w/ his mother, taken not long before history seized this family so cruelly.
Confronting the past can be painful business, but I can’t see any future for our democracy without it.
John Lewis said our first task is to “make plain [the truth] without anger or apology.”
A tall order, but also, I think, the way we’ll be measured henceforth.
