Socialism is a scare word in the USA, and I blame the old USSR for that. Say the word, and that's what appears in too many people's minds.
After years of effort, I FINALLY got through to my 80+ yo mother that socialism provides a lot of good we NEED here, from schools to roads to police...and that it should include health care & better educational benefits. It's pointing out the benefits of socialist programs she likes that took away the scare part.
