If you want to make your own Fediverse server, you don't need to be a techy person and you don't need to be wealthy.

A Fediverse server with 1 to 5 users costs about $8 a month, and that includes a managed hosting service which does all the technical stuff for you.

I've written a tutorial about starting your own Mastodon server, but most of this applies to any kind of Fedi server:

You can find links to managed hosting services at growyourown.services/grow-your

Another example of #PPEE at work. Once upon a time I could find a 1/16" router bit at any hardware store. Now I have one local (very expensive) supplier as my only alternative to ordering online. Since I need it right now, that's not an option anyway. I'm off to that supplier. BBL

Outlines are useful, but craft them with flexibility in mind. You often have no real idea what you need to say until you've started saying it.

While I think a lot of Biden’s policies could go further, it is good to see the nation investing in itself again: “Rather than scaring off private investment, as the trickle-down theory argued, that public investment has attracted more than $490 billion of private money into new industries. Manufacturing is booming. Together, infrastructure and manufacturing have created new jobs that pay well.”

Today is Day 21 of #Trump codefendant Walt #Nauta's quest to find local FL counsel. Or Day 36, if you count from the date of his target letter, May 24, when some people might have started looking. #legal 1/…🪡

Guns are the problem, more guns are the answer. Not only that but every kook and maladjusted citizen has the fundamental Right to own and carry lethal power until they violate our trust and slaughter innocent people. But such is the price of the freedom to caress My Precious- the GOP promotes though policy as we observe:

Goodhart's Law is the idea that "when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure".

Once people are exposed to this idea, they often come up with analogous phenomena. But no one had yet unified all the similar phenomena in a single theoretical framework.

So one of our goals was to create a consistent set of terms that highlight the structural commonalities across different examples of "Goodhart-like" phenomena. Our key terms are: "regulator", "goal", "agent", and "proxy".

Not all of our power can be provided by solar panels on rooftops and covering parking lots so there will have to be companies producing power from wind turbines and such too despite my earlier reply, but there is plenty of that so I don't see any need to subsidize the nuclear energy industry.

I would much rather focus on deploying the technologies that are now available in order to more quickly decarbonize.

I am a much bigger fan of producing power close to where it will be used instead of propping up big corporations so that they can profit off of people providing essential products personally.

Two of our "dependable" nuclear energy plants are not producing any electricity. Thank goodness the sun is shining, the wind is blowing, and electricity can be stored chemically in batteries though so we'll be okay. nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collect

One of my continuing and growing concerns about climate financial risk is that no one has the authority to monitor economy-wide financial risk. I spoke with Chairman Powell about this last week (at the 2:37 mark). Short thread. c-span.org/video/?528798-1/mon
