@Melody@masto.ai …Just because we can. This illustrates a real weakness in our system of government when a corrupt party controls a House in Congress, half of the body is in on the scam, the intent and integrity of the law no longer counts. The hypocritical #GOzP in their latest Fool’d Ya ploy, loves to rail about a weaponized Justice Dept while they rely on the tactic routinely. Just remember the Justice Dept is after a real no-shit #TheHeadCrook, while the GOP is after a political target. 🔥
@wdjorth According to Assleep, this would be making poor white kids uncomfortable to be Woke…which boggles my mind as an old white dude who has alway valued truth, awareness, and knowledge of past injustices, because it’s supposed to make us better human beings, make better choices, right? Only a bankrupt political party could seriously push the idea that being an ignorant racist is an ideal state because “I’ll benefit over you.” Yet, this is what feeds the MAGA base. 🥵
This is an essential part of American history that should be taught across all states and especially in Tennessee. https://universeodon.com/@celset2/111036633354047236

@malcircuit Zero. And purchased it with a VA loan with zero down and my house payment was $400 monthly. I acknowledge that times have changed. 😬 And college, before then, Syracuse was $1500 a semester. Maybe we should be talking about how wonderful Capitalism is or how difficult it is for humans to devise an economic system that is not self destructive or won’t 🔥 the planet? Admittedly along with my senior status, I’ve become a pessimist about our future as a species. 😓
Yet another reason the #AmericanEmpire is circling the drain.

On 9/11/01 my brother-in-law, James Barbella was killed in the WTC. He worked for the Port Authority of NY which was the property management company. He was there for years. He was only on the 7th floor and could have gotten out. He knew every nook and cranny of the building. He was last seen going UP the stairs leading the firemen. His co worker told him to get out. He said “I can’t leave until I get people out”. 😔

Every so often (like today) I think about buying a house, but then I look prices and think about everything involved with owning and maintaining a house and I give up lol
Part of me doesn't like the idea of chaining myself down like that. It'd be one thing if I had the cash to buy a house outright, but the idea of tying myself to a specific location and being on the hook for payments for 20-30 years scares me
@malcircuit That’s a valid view. Other considerations, pay a mortgage or pay a landlord who can up the rent just because; having a space you own can be appealing; you can always sell your house, but they used to be much more affordable for a starter. My first house purchased in 1979 Texas was $40k, while in SanDiego they were $100k. My impression is that many younger people don’t want to be tied down, and the cost of a house is out of reach for many/most of them. 🤔
I grew up in Hollywood and went to UCLA and love them both—but also see the flaws and am completely comfortable with outsider critiques. I’d probably agree with a lot of the most brutal assessments.
This is just such a bad article I’m surprised it got past a Guardian editor without heavy rewrites.
There are two layers of weirdness in this opinion piece. One is the flimsy evidence. The campus was pristine. It’s an industry town. Students were open about personal branding and networking. A sorority rush was too earnest. Frat houses had dirty bathrooms. That’s it? Second is that it contradicts her premise by sounding exactly like the LA university you’d see in movies.
Guardian: My fantasy of the American dream was nothing like the reality – so I came home to the UK
In retrospect, a recycling bin with an easy to open lid may not have been the best idea. 🐱
@gcblasing@mstdn.social “Why is this?” Religion provides the ultimate in comfort, while being used as a tool to manipulate. The real issue here, from a personal standpoint is going overboard, turning fantasy into fact and then often, dictating to others, for fun, power, control, and don’t forget profit. Which brings me back to manipulation, and/or mass delusion. 😇🤔
