@lowqualityfacts Got a link? If this is true, not that I watch Jeopardy, I feel the same way about this as when I learned that Reality TV is mostly scripted. Yeah, real people, false reality. 🙄

@GatekeepKen When I see people posing with their Preciousss, it just reminds me of how far we have fallen. And when I see a person of color, politician (if that is not photoshopped), with their baby (gun) it raises more questions instead of giving a me a good vibe. Good ole boy wannabe or I’m here to fight the oppressors? 🤔

But I have news for all the men who cherish the idea that straight men own beer:

You may be shocked to hear this, but women drink beer.

So do gay men. So do lesbian women.

So do trans and bisexual and intersex and queer folks.

You may think you own beer. You do not.

Lots of straight folk who care about LGBTQ folks drink beer.

Astute corporations today realize that their market is diverse and they market explicitly to diverse communities for that reason.

@ProjectFearlessness Or better yet just denying that we have anything to do with it, that it’s happened in the past, so “I don’t have to pay anything to fix or prevent it” as much of the world turns into a hot skillet and most of us are the sunny side up eggs sizzling in it. Btw, that’s my brother’s attitude and his solution was to move North. Problem solved! 🙄

To clear up any confusion about Climate Doomerism.

Sounding dire warnings about climate catastrophe.
Not Climate Doomerism.

Saying that if we don't make radical changes we are heading for climate catastrophe.
Not Climate Doomerism.

Criticising government inaction on climate that means we are heading for climate catastrophe.
Not Climate Doomerism.

Saying it's too late, humanity won't change, and there's nothing we can do to stop the coming climate catastrophe...

That's Climate Doomerism.

I was just told it would be insane to think that fossil fuel companies would push Climate Doomerism as a tactic to delay action on climate change.

Surely they wouldn't be so psychopathic as to push such an unrealistic stance on climate change just so they could keep profiting from exploiting the world's resources at a huge environmental cost?

The last 30+ years of Climate Denialism tells us they are. They are so psychopathic.

@tultican More love for fellow human beings if not solve many problems would improve our lot on this Earth substantially, instead of being selfish, greedy bastards. That’s a situational analysis. Not all of us are selfish, but we are more concerned with what we individually have than the collective health of the species or the planet. And when the floor drops out, we are all surprised as if something is happening that we don’t deserve. Conservatives are the worst in this regard.

One might reasonably ask why I just assert these things as true, given I'm not myself a climate scientist. The thing is, Climate Science has seemed to me to view as conservative those things that they can prove, perhaps fearing loss of credential if they speculate and are shown wrong. That means they are telling us "it's at least this bad". But they are not telling us "It's no more than this bad."

They are recently all sounding surprised by how fast some things are happening, further underscoring that they've been talking "minimum badness" not "maximum badness".

Consider that if this were a war, we would never build defenses only against those attacks we could prove were going to happen. We have to make guesses about what's likely, or even possible. Budget comes into play in some cases, but if the enemy is real (and this enemy definitely is), we need a much larger budget than just "what we can prove". We need educated guesses and speculation and fears out on the table among these people.

We need to see that really conservative is not "what we can prove", it's "what we cannot disprove".

Moreover, if something about our economics is saying it's more economical to ignore this risk than plan for it, then there is something wrong with our economic system. This will only get more expensive and more dangerous. Delay is not a form of economic conservatism.

Never forget that nearly half of the Pentagon budget goes to private contractors.

Investigations show these companies make egregious profits overcharging DoD.

The Senate is now debating an $886 billion defense bill.

Let’s call it what it is: corporate welfare on steroids.

#ClimateDiary This morning I am suddenly really angry again about the lack of serious engagement with #ClimateEmergency in both politics and #PoliticalScience.

Of course, Antonio #Guterres (❤️ ) is shouting 'we are BOILING', and #Vanuatu's #Regenvanu and other small island leaders have been shouting for years, too. But no major political leader is standing up and saying: this really is an Emergency, let's do everything right now. Like, noone. It is just not happening! 1/3

I recently got a new coffee brewer, a Mr Coffee, which does a fine job of brewing coffee at an economical price and made a discovery. If I use a metal mesh basket to hold the grounds instead of a paper filter, it improves the flavor tremendously. That is what my taste buds told me. How many of you disagree with this assessment? 😉 I read that the mesh basket allows the coffee bean oils to come though.
