Hey!

We know that Trump is officially an unlawful dictator, because the President of the United States is an officer of the law, and by the Constitution and his oath of office, he is not allowed to imprison people without due process.

No matter how popular or unpopular he is or becomes, it all comes down to this - unlawful imprisonment is illegal even for the President to do.

"For years, White House press conferences included sign language interpreters for the deaf.

No longer. Interpreters have been noticeably absent from Trump administration press briefings, advocacy groups say.

Gone, too, are the American Sign Language interpretations that used to appear on the White House’s YouTube channel. A White House webpage on accessibility, whitehouse.gov/accessibility, has also ceased working."

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is introducing a bill along with Rep. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) to stop Trump's "emergency tariffs" and give the tariff power back to Congress, where it belongs.

Grassley is the President Pro Tempore of the US Senate, it doesn't get more "senior leadership" than him, so what Trump has done today is so insane that it is sparking panic in the highest levels of his own party in Congress, and they realize they need to step in and stop this or be blamed for the failure.

By "America First" tRUmp means that America is the first country he wants to destroy. Everyone else is second.

#Trump again criticizes the creation of the #IncomeTax in the US in 1913, arguing that it’s a mystery why the nation ever instituted one. American policymakers embraced the income tax for 2 reasons: to collect more taxes from the #rich & to pay for a growing federal govt.

Conversly, #tariffs disproportionately burden #LowIncome Americans, who spend more of their earnings on goods that tariffs make more expensive.

what i've seen so far will be a disaster for our economy. Prices are going to spike on things the middle class buys, like clothes.

Middle class spends a higher percentage of income on physical goods. Rich people spend on things like gardeners and masseuses. No #tariffs for them

"They made a fortune" with the US, says President Trump as he announces a 49% tariff on products from Cambodia, one of the more impoverished countries in Asia. "This is kind reciprocal."

The bad news is that #Trump is about to crater the US economy.

The good news is that it’ll be a lot harder for Trump to consolidate authoritarianism if we’re in the midst of a recession.

#Trump claims that many countries have targeted the #US w/ “non-monetary barriers,” like currency manipulation, subsidies, exorbitant taxes & theft of intellectual property.

Trump specifically talked about the #EuropeanUnion’s value-added tax, which he has long despised. #VAT rates are common outside of the United States, & the U.S. is actually an outlier for not having one.

I did some quick math and replacing Income Tax with Tariffs on goods would equate to replacing $3.3 trillion with roughly $680 Billion. If that's correct, the country's screwed.

Is there an #Economist who can verify?

India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam specifically named by President Trump in his Rose Garden remarks prior to signing reciprocal tariffs order. He also says a 25% tariff to be imposed on "all foreign automobiles" at midnight.

The right wing influencer machine is telling everyone that #Trump is going to announce the “External Revenue Service” and abolish the IRS today.

What’s actually going to happen if he establishes the ERS is that you get taxed twice.

#Trump called the announcement “our declaration of economic independence” & described it as one of the most important moments in American history.

Trump said his #tariff policies would generate “trillions and trillions of dollars to reduce our taxes & pay down our national debt.”

Again, the opposite is true according to most financial experts.

COONS: There are people on the Social Security rolls listed as having born 150 or 200 years ago. They are not receiving Social Security payments.

MacCALLUM: I don't think that's true.

COONS: Martha, I'm just repeating back to you what the Trump administration acting Social Security administrator said.
