Caribbean leaders have hit back at a threat issued by the United States government to cancel visas for anyone working with or supporting Cuban medical facilities, citing allegations of forced labour and claiming these missions “enrich the Cuban regime”.

Cuban medical missions, which provide doctors, nurses and other medical staff as well as medical facilities, are critical to healthcare systems in the Caribbean.

From Nick Lilja, former Chief Meteorologist at WDAM:

Just a brief reminder that due to recent layoffs (and the hiring freeze) at NOAA, there are fewer weather balloons sampling this system as it moves into the US and develops, there are fewer forecasters at the NWS obtaining data and offering analysis, and the three NWS offices serving this area will be working with fewer-than-normal meteorologists on staff for this event.

So please be kind to them if this weekend ends up being very active. The model data may not be as accurate leading up to the event, the regional forecasts may lack additional data and context, and the local offices may struggle more than normal to keep up with multiple simultaneous storms given the lack of available people in the chairs.

I know these folks are all dedicated as public servants to do the best job they can do. But the reality is they will be working longer hours with fewer people, and fewer resources during an event that may feature above-nornal activity.

Just thought I'd leave this here as a little reminder of those *ahem* sleepier times just two months ago.

Let me know when we're great. Or just when we're as great as we were in January.

Keep ‘em coming

“A federal judge on Saturday has temporarily barred the removal of some undocumented immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act even before the #Trump admin invoked the little-known 18th-century law.

..applies only to those who filed a lawsuit Saturday, but judge will hold hearing this eve about whether to apply order more broadly.”

Yesterday, Trump targeted me at a speech be the Department of Justice. If he thinks it will cause me to back down he is wrong. My law firm is currently litigating 46 pro-democracy cases in 21 states, with more to come. We are not done fighting and we are…

@rbreich Because they're today's gutless wonders. Only #Dem women seem to have balls.

“There is no area in which the United States’ global dominance is more total than higher education. With about 4 percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of its gross domestic product, America has 72 percent of the world’s 25 top universities by one ranking and 64 percent by another. But this crucial U.S. competitive advantage is being undermined by the Trump administration’s war on colleges.”

Putin WILL stage a provocation to have a reason to break the TRUCE he signs

This is from American intelligence reports and comments from officials:

⚡Putin is still determined to gain control of Kyiv;

⚡Even if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, it will use it to rebuild its troops and rearm

⚡There are no signs that Putin has abandoned plans to keep Ukraine in his zone of interests and influence

⚡Kremlin believes Trump is weak and can be easily manipulated - history proves this

Bought a pair of new folding chairs for the summer. Opened one up in the living room and it was immediately claimed by Shadow. He says it's just his size, so no one can sit there with him, and in another 30 minutes it will be so coated (pun intended) with cat hair, no one will want to sit there.

I'm really haunted by this bit, "Hospital staff are scrambling with damage control efforts — implementing emergency masking policies and giving babies as young as three days old injections of immunoglobulin..."

You're a hospital. in the middle (both geographically and timewise) of a Measles outbreak. During an ongoing (yet mostly ignored) pandemic of a disease that can permanently disable people who get it. Both are known airborne diseases. And you have to scramble to implement and "emergency masking policy"

WTF?!?

YIKES!

On Wednesday, a woman gave birth in a Lubbock, Texas, hospital in the middle of a deadly and fast-growing measles outbreak. Doctors didn’t realize until the young mother had been admitted and in labor that she was infected with the measles.

By that time, other new moms, newborn babies and their families at University Medical Center Children’s Hospital in Lubbock had unknowingly been exposed to the virus, considered one of the most contagious in the world.

Hospital staff are scrambling with damage control efforts — implementing emergency masking policies and giving babies as young as three days old injections of immunoglobulin, an antibody that helps their fragile immune system fight off infections. nbcnews.com/health/health-news

From the article: "Measles outbreaks in West Texas and New Mexico are now up to nearly 300 cases, and two unvaccinated people have died from measles-related causes.

"Measles is caused by a highly contagious virus that’s airborne and spreads easily when an infected person breathes, sneezes or coughs. It is preventable through vaccines, and has been considered eliminated from the U.S. since 2000.

"As of Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said its count of confirmed measles cases in the U.S. surpassed 2024. Here’s what else you need to know about measles in the U.S."
