People! Listen! Lock your guns up! The likelihood that your fantasy of protecting yourself or your family using a handgun coming true is up there with winning the lottery. Having a family member die because someone misuses that firearm, on the other hand, is not uncommon in the US. If you carry a gun, keep it on you, have one with a safety, and lock it up the moment you get home.
