A 58-year-old white woman antagonized the black children who lived next door. She frequently called them vile names. She threw a pair of skates at them, hitting one of them.

The kids, ages 9 and 12, walked up to her door with their mother and knocked on the door. The white woman then shot the black mother through the closed door, killing her.

I'll never understand the “stand your ground” laws except through the lens of racism. You know what makes me feel threatened--seeing people walking around displaying weapons. I don't know what they intend, what training they've had, or the status of their mental health. So, can we immediately attack anyone open-carrying because we feel threatened and unsafe?
