"A pair of archaeologists with Lund University in Sweden has found "a treasure trove" of plants aboard a sunken 15th-century #Norse ship. Mikael Larsson and Brendan Foley describe their findings in PLOS ONE.

The researchers found spices such as nutmeg, cloves, mustard and dill. They also found samples of other plant material, such as saffron and ginger, peppercorns and almonds. Some of the spices would have come from as far away as Indonesia, suggesting that King Hans had developed an advanced trade network. The researchers also found snack items, such as dried blackberries, raspberries, grapes and flax, each find showing just how rich and powerful Hans had become. The researchers also found one non-edible plant, henbane, which, in the past, was used for medicinal purposes."

I would be more concerned if Rowling were a saint of a person, but she wrote books where the main character embraced fascism and misoginy. That would be a problem. I don't care about the personal life of Gene Roddenberry, as long as Star Trek promotes universal values of humanism, diversity and inclusion. In those cases, the work speaks a lot more than the life of the person.

The College Board is hitting back at top GOP officials in Florida over the state's ban on a new AP African American Studies course that's being piloted in several states.

In a lengthy statement released Saturday, the national education nonprofit said it should have more quickly addressed claims by Florida's Department of Education that the course was indoctrinating students and lacked educational value, which the College Board called "slander."
