As far as I am aware, the US is the only democracy on the planet in which Supreme Court judges have life tenure.
These appointments are therefore the holy grail of politics. This politicization of SCOTUS has enabled the GOP with the help of the Federalist Society, to call on that magic word ‘Interpretation’ to reshape societal values without the consent of the people or the government of the day.
