Tyrant #Trump is threatening to fire the Chair of the Federal Reserve, which he cannot legally do (hasn't stopped him from firing the heads of other independent agencies). Why? Because Powell isn't lowering interest rates - because Trump's tariffs will cause inflation. History shows us that national leaders are often eager to juice the economy by pressuring central banks to reduce interest rates... but that violates their all-important independence, preventing them from managing the tricky balance between inflation and recession. If Trump did get his way and had huge tariffs while simultaneously lowering interest rates, inflation would take off like a rocket.
