Happy 33rd Anniversary to the Americans with Disabilities Act and a shout out to all who fight for Equality, Dignity and Independence. Lead On!

On one side, we have a PhD in epidemiology says in a peer reviewed journal that gender affirming care is overwhelmingly beneficial for the people who receive it

On the other, we have a plumber from Tennessee who says "no it's not"

This is the state of the trans "debate"

At a time when there are those who seek to ban books and bury history, I'll be clear:

Darkness and denialism can hide much, but they erase nothing. We should learn everything: the good, bad, and truth of who we are.

That’s what great nations do, and we are a great nation.

@old_hippie

There's no shortage of stupidity.

But it's not useful to think of #fascists as stupid. We underestimate them at our peril.

Here's a link to a (free!) book on right wing authoritarian followers that really helped me understand my neighbors (and why they're so dangerous).

"It’s so hot in Arizona, doctors are treating a spike of patients who were burned by falling on the ground"

"Every single one of the 45 beds in the burn center is full, he said, and one-third of patients are people who fell and burned themselves on the ground. There are also burn patients in the ICU, and about half of those patients are people burned after falls."

@rolle Just saw people coming to Mastodon with thousands of followers from other social platforms. They sign up, make a couple of posts like 'Hey, I'm here now!' and hours later, they're surprised they don't instantly have thousands of followers again. Then they say 'no, it doesn't work' and go back to their old social media. Engagement doesn't happen overnight, especially when there are no algorithms guiding others' choices. #Mastodon #SocialMediaEngagement #Algorithms #OnlineCommunity

It's certainly not news for anyone who lives in a state of reality that Rudy Giuliani is a liar. It is news that he is admitting it, but he and his MAGA monster clan have to be held accountable.

Don’t they have anything more important to do? Why is this is an issue the Senate has to involve itself with?

I think we should stop saying homophobia when we mean gay-hating.

I worked at Texas A&M once. It is a great public higher education system.
I wrote about how disheartening it is to see two scandals that confirm the intense politicization corrupting A&M and higher ed in other red states.
One professor had her job offer pulled when she was labeled a "DEI proponent."
Another criticized the Lt Governor in a lecture about opioids. She was suspended within hours.

@shepgo @sfwrtr Contrary to his pandemic minimalization I also noted that not only are hospitalizations up but wastewater levels are up and Walgreens test positivity rate is up. Unfortunately we no longer have good data from the CDC but anecdotal reports from many physicians also indicate Covid is on an uptick.

This is why many places are against requiring or even recommending masks. The rich don’t want any visible signs that the pandemic is ongoing because it could cut into their profits. Unsurprising that elites have the same out of sight, out of mind attitude towards clean air tools.
