"No publicly traded company would consider naming Trump to an executive position... None of his billionaire friends would trust him with their money." He couldn't work in a school or a lawfirm. And yet we might elect him president, @sykescharlie writes: theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/

Vietnam has reported a record-high temperature of 44.1C (111.38F), as weather experts and authorities told the population to remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

Scientists have said global warming is aggravating adverse weather. Neighbouring countries registered record temperatures during a heatwave in Asia in April.

Elect people who know right from wrong. It’s a simple test you can apply to any political zealot on the right or the left, to any judge, school committee member, sheriff, or pastor. If we can no longer do that simple thing, if the money and the power and the media have forever changed our ability to tell what is right and to desire what is right, crawling our way back to decency will take generations.

On Tuesday, President Biden is scheduled to meet with House Speaker McCarthy, Leader Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Leader McConnell at the White House.

Weapons of war don't belong into civilians' hands.

The U.S. military is the only admissible & well-regulated "militia" empowered & armed to defend the nation.
An army of civilian lunatics armed with guns to kill masses of people in no time is not, what U.S. forces approve & are there for.
How credible is the U.S. military defending American lives abroad, while Americans are allowed to use military-style weapons to slaughter their fellow-Americans at home?

"Our father, Eugene Stoner, designed the AR-15 and subsequent M-16 as a military weapon to give our soldiers an advantage over the AK-47,” the Stoner family told NBC News late Wednesday. "He died long before any mass shootings occurred. But, we do think he would have been horrified and sickened as anyone, if not more by these events."

The Mormon Church is being fined 5 million because it hid a 32 billion dollar investment fund. This was not accidental. The SEC proved that both the investment firm and church went to great lengths to knowingly hide these assets. For the folks playing along at home, that’s a fine of 0.016% on the investment. Imagine lying on your taxes and you hid an extra $100K offshore and the IRS said “No sweat, pay us $15.63.” If there are no other repercussions, that’s not a fine, that’s encouragement.

🥥 Heidi and #TedCruz are praying and #praying, and still the shootings go on and on.
Anybody see the problem with this picture of the man who gets the most money in #Congress from the #NRA URGING #Prayer as a solution to #GunViolence in the USA? 🥥

This is nominally a list of all the horrible things Desantis has recently done in Florida, but it's also a blueprint for what's in store for the rest of the country as Republican sadism continues to advance: jasongarcia.substack.com/p/wel

If it IS domestic terrorism, it's time for law enforcement to crack down on these groups.

There's been a lot of talk today about Henry Kissinger's upcoming 100th birthday, but I've yet to see Anthony Bourdain's quote about that war criminal scroll by, and it can't be shared enough.

“This one, at a mall in Allen, TX, complete with the requisite dopey congressman offering thoughts and prayers, presumably to the Jehovah of the Bible, always a convenient break from worshipping their two true gods: AR-15 manufacturers and the gun lobby.” open.substack.com/pub/mattlaba

Do you remember Jack Abramoff?
Black Jack the lobbyist? He went to jail for violating lobbying laws. There is a law called the JACK act that toughens disclosure laws for people who lobby government agencies.

Clarence Thomas and his wife Coup plot Ginni are a DC crime wave couple who violated all the disclosure rules in the JACK act. Turns out she also received $$$ and was instructed NOT to disclose it-

There goes the “I didn’t know i had to “ excuse.

If #ThoughtsandPrayers worked, Trump's belly would swell with gas every time he told a lie, and within a day he would have Violet Beauregarded to a terrifying size before popping like a cheap pork sausage.

@DemocracyMattersALot We have a Vietnam worth of gun deaths every year in America now. Thanks go out to the NRA and weak-willed, elected republicans, who are getting the constant carnage of their dreams.

“We’re on pace for close to 600 shootings, and perhaps 60,000 willful, malicious, or accidental deaths (there’ve been 20,200 so far this year, according to the GVA, in the first four months-and-one-week of 2023). That 60,000 is roughly equal to the number of Americans who died in Vietnam in nearly a decade. “
