Ella Irwin also explicitly directed Twitter to ban journalists like me. The fact that she has used her access to people's private messages should be a wake-up call to everyone on Twitter, especially journalists; how can you protect sources in a place like that?

Many of the conservatives who are pushing hardest for book bans in public schools homeschool their kids or send them to private schools.

They still push for this because destruction of public schools as an engine of egalitarianism, democracy and social mobility serves their larger ideological goals of having an unequal society with "good people" like them at the top, served and exploited by exploited and ignorant poor underneath.

My sympathies to parents and teachers of school-aged kids in Florida. You deserve better.

Sick of #twitter ?

Just go to the Playstore, search for Twitter. Don't reinstall it, but rate it with one star. Then select the three dots in the top right, with 'Flag As Inappropriate'. The next screen asks why you think it is inappropriate. Mark it as 'Contains Hate Speech', and submit.

Google does take these reports seriously. It's worth the effort.

“…a former colleague of Mrs. #Roberts has raised concerns that her recruiting work poses potential ethics issues for the chief justice. Seeking an inquiry, the ex-colleague has provided records to DOJ and Congress indicating she has been paid millions of dollars in commissions for placing lawyers at firms — some of which have business before the Supreme Court”

I'd like to point out to anyone who thinks that "you do you" public health is sustainable that it's illegal to wear a mask in many public places in the US. This has only been on hold because of the emergency declaration and that's about to end.

For example, let me introduce you to my local law in Florida. Florida State statute 876.12:

Wearing mask, hood, or other device on public way.—No person or persons over 16 years of age shall, while wearing any mask, hood, or device whereby any portion of the face is so hidden, concealed, or covered as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter upon, or be or appear upon any lane, walk, alley, street, road, highway, or other public way in this state.

This law was pointed out to my wife by a law enforcement officer who really wanted to arrest her for wearing a mask in a grocery store last year.

If you think you're going to be able to avoid COVID after the end of the emergency declaration you'd better be a full on hermit who never has to venture out.

I often get the sense that quite a few people do not actually know what I write about and instead make assumptions about what I must write about based on another set of assumptions about who I must be.

But, if you ask me, I write about democracy, and this column — about the near-total absence of accountability for American police departments — is very much about democracy.

Another purposefully misleading headline from our mainstream media

“Biden refuses to negotiate with republicans!!!1!”

Republicans don’t want to pay the bill for a budget they already passed. They want to hold the nation hostage. And it’s on the president to give into their demands?

The United States of America does not negotiate with terrorists.

I don’t know if my mastodon follower reach is enough to get traction but can anyone direct me to resources in the UK for trans and non gender conforming people who get illegally terminated from work as a teacher? Like are there legal groups addressing that there?

Today marks the 83rd anniversary of the first-ever #SocialSecurity check, and Republicans are celebrating by trying to cut this vital program.

I will keep fighting to protect and expand Social Security benefits for San Antonio's seniors and people with disabilities.

I mean, it's probably not going to be fingernails.

But DeSantis has already very publicly thrown black people in prison over fake voting charges. Later reversed, but that's not the point. He's about to conduct a very cruel and very public purge of New College. He is operating an illegal refugee trafficking scheme, soley for political optics.

His intentional cruelty will only escalate in the coming months.

And watching Floridians tolerate this? Genocide is coming.
