A catastrophic rail strike was averted on Thursday as the Senate voted 80-15 on a new labor agreement to increase wages and health benefits for rail workers.
Republicans filibustered an additional Democratic bill that would have provided rail workers with 7 days of paid sick leave. The deal was voted down by a vote of 52-43, falling short of the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster. 1/

Senate votes to avert costly rail strike “But senators rejected a proposal to add seven days of paid sick leave to the agreement, which four rail unions demanded.” Joe Manchin was the sole Democrat to vote against paid sick leave. Quelle surprise. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/3758563-senate-votes-to-avert-costly-rail-strike/

An essay I wrote about my abortion is up on HuffPost. Hopefully hearing more stories about this choice helps to normalize and destigmatize the conversation. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/abortion-married-women-40s_n_63869a0ae4b0b7f6530c255d?utm_campaign=share_twitter&ncid=engmodushpmg00000004 via @HuffPost@twitter.com

When you imagine the future (of digital learning and teaching), is it one which fills you with hope, or one which fills you with dread? Affective imaginings of digital futures sparking digital advocacy and activism in the present.
I'm in the virtual session 'Exploring speculative approaches to digital education futures' and feel energised and inspired by the words of @jaross @veletsianos and others here. For this, thank you.

Shortly before Thanksgiving, I gave a talk on “fun things you can do with your phone” to a women’s organization. I barely scratched the surface, but managed to get all of them excited about Google Tools.
The neat part about the presentation, though, was that I thought there would be no screen/TV or other way to present, so I did it all using #Nearpod. That also meant I had to show these ladies how to switch tabs on their browsers. It worked great! Nearpod has many uses outside of the classroom.
