#Introduction I work in professional development in higher education, focused on evidence based teaching and inquiry-based learning in Math. If you teach math and are interested in engaging more students, there exist a well-developed framework using inquiry-based learning. We have a website that organizes information at www.inquirybasedlearning.org #education #HigherEd #MathED #IBL

They could not successfully sow doubt in our democracy without first dismantling our education system. In that regard their efforts the past three decades have been successful.

We must fight on multiple fronts if we are to be successful long term. Get involved in your local school boards, it affects you whether you have kids in school or not.

Today, a federal judge issued a punishment against one of the biggest, most egregious union busters: Amazon.

The company was directed to stop retaliating against any employees for workplace organizing activities protected under the National Labor Relations Act.

It’s about time.

It is EXTREMELY URGENT that government agencies, emergency groups, and others who have over time become dependent on #Twitter to disseminate important announcements to the public, now move quickly to prepare alternative methods (which they really should have already).

It is clear that Musk's behavior is decimating Twitter as a reliable platform for reaching the public without interference, and since Musk now says he will let all hate speech and disinformation that is "not illegal or spam" be propagated on Twitter, even from previously suspended accounts, Twitter will now rapidly become of zero value as a source of trustworthy information on any topics.

DO NOT DELAY!

News flash: If you outlaw abortions, criminalize providing gender affirming care for trans youth, dictate what educators can teach in schools, and stop people from voting, you're not the party of "limited government."

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.

I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested

Our 9-year-old son came home from school & said that some boys at recess offered to play with him if 'he hugged & kissed a girl.'

He responded to them, "No, that's inappropriate," & told us he didn't mind not being able to play with those boys after all. Afterwards his teacher shared she was happy he stood up to peer pressure.

Y'all—it's never too early to teach boys about consent and boundaries. Have the conversation. Then have it again. And again. Boys will be the boys we teach them to be.

A Pinned Thread on Threading and Pinning

While different, threading in Mastodon is actually pretty good. People are familiar with Twitter threads that link one post to the next in chronological order. You can do this on Mastodon too, but it’s a little less polished.

Why do we need 51 senators rather than 50? Because right now at 50/50 every committee has a tie. Moving anything out of committee requires a superhuman effort. If Dems win a 51st seat, they'll have committee majorities.

The Georgia runoff MATTERS.

Re-electing Warnock MATTERS.

🚨ALERT: Arizona @ActiveRetirees@twitter.com sued the supervisors of Cochise County for failing to certify election results by today's statutory deadline. The Republican supervisors refused to certify based on conspiratorial allegations about voting machines.

The longer I’m around the more I’ve learned life is about perspective. Like who knew the underside of a mushroom could be such an interesting view? I mean the ants & ladybugs probably knew but they weren’t spilling their secrets.

Try to view things a little differently today and just see what happens. Hopefully good things. ❤️

@Drdind @QasimRashid DeSantis governs a state with a fairly large Jewish population in North Dade, Miami Beach, Broward, and Boca Raton. So his silence is deafening and inexcusable. He’s certainly not leadership material if that’s who Republicans are looking at as more acceptable than Trump.

“Moms for Christo-Fascism” aka “Moms for Liberty” are attacking public schools across the US. They are huge fans of Betsy DeVos who spoke during their national Summit. #ChristoFascism #dominionism #ChristianNationalism Thread: threadreaderapp.com/thread/159

It's 2022 Disability Holiday Gift Guide time! 🥳

Putting the guide together is my favorite annual holiday tradition.

I know it's been a heck of a year, but I hope this guide brings you some joy and helps you get in a festive, giving spirit! It's brimming with cool shops owned by disabled entrepreneurs, some book recommendations by disabled authors, and disability-led organizations to support.

Please share with everyone you know! 🎁📚♿️

Herschel Walker thinks the solution to gun violence is “stopping young men from looking at women [on] social media."

@ReverendWarnock@twitter.com supports universal background checks and closing loopholes that allow domestic abusers to access firearms.

Georgia – the choice is clear.

@AlliFlowers I’ve done it twice, now: the first time, I just signed up for any server (making a Twitter placeholder, basically), and the second time was to move off social and into zirk.

I get the fear. I used to be a historian, so should I be on historians.social? But I also write, so maybe writing.exchange? And ooh, I do freelance work in education that isn’t higher ed…

Like you say, best to just aggressively look for the people you want to follow.
