"Mamdani’s pro-#Palestinian politics have sparked enormous alarm among some #NewYork #Jews, but he’s also won considerable #Jewish support. In a poll of likely Jewish voters done by the Honan Strategy Group in May, Andrew Cuomo came in first, with 31 percent of the vote, but Mamdani was second, with 20 percent. On Tuesday, he won most of Park Slope, a neighborhood full of progressive Jews, and held his own on the similarly Jewish Upper West Side.

“His campaign has attracted Jewish New Yorkers of all types,” wrote Jay Michaelson, a columnist at the Jewish newspaper The Forward. The rabbi who runs my son’s Hebrew school put #Mamdani on his ballot, though he didn’t rank him first. "

I'm not a lawyer, but the gist of what I'm reading is that rights for poor people DO NOT EXIST because they cannot AFFORD them, according to the supreme court. Did I get that right?

Via Fiona André at @religionnewssvc: For years, persecuted Christians abroad — including Iranian Christians — has been a cause célèbre on the right, including Trump.

"The economic impacts of terminating TPS for Haiti is dramatic, and will be heavily felt by red states too; Ohio, Florida, Kansas... lots of those states have tens of thousands of Haitians living and working there legally right now.

We're talking hundreds of thousands of jobs lost in a single day."

@TonyStark @Tengrain there’s plenty of blame to go around as to why we didn’t have two brilliant eminently qualified women as president but there’s one reason they supercedes the rest. They’re women and this country is hella misogynistic. Thanks to the misogyny we’re now living under fascism.

"The detentions add to a growing number of church members and Christians seeking religious protection who get picked up by ICE. Often they have no apparent criminal history. In many instances, they were in the United States lawfully, complying with orders from immigration courts. ICE has traditionally not deported individuals with pending asylum petitions, who are allowed to work while their cases proceed."

“You know what would help? Some elite disapproval—publicly and boldly expressed. While a successful democracy depends on some degree of reasonableness from voters, a successful liberal democracy also depends on responsibility and courage from elites.”
