As the posts here on the fediverse begin to accumulate, making the case that political violence against Israelis (or at the very least Israeli diplomatic staff) is different than anti-Jewish violence and the reposting of the American Jewish Committee shooter's "manifesto" spreads...

I'm not interested in parsing the distinction at the moment.

What I am interested in is paying attention to whether this remains an isolated incident or sparks acts that are nothing but anti-Jewish violence.

It's that second potentiality that concerns me.

Is my visibly Jewish dress going to put my family and friends in some kind of danger?

Is my Rabbi going to ask me to CC at Shul again?

Should I be worried about taking my wife and kid to see Matisyahu this summer?

These moments in time are very odd.

And I don't think many in progressive US movements understand the history of what has the potential to inspire anti-Jewish violence.

Another Republican own goal:

Greenland has just signed a lucrative minerals deal with Europe.

We talk about how there should be no haven for hate in the United States. The government - both parties - wrings its hands about antisemitism.

And honestly? They're doing less and less every year.

I still have to walk past an armed police officer at the door of my synagogue this Shabbat when I go to services.

I have to find money in my synagogue budget to harden the building against attackers.

My children are getting to the age that we're talking about their future, and we have to worry about whether the colleges or living arrangements they're looking at are safe places to be openly Jewish.

It's 2025 in America.

We shouldn't have to live like this.

"Many are saying" the #Trump #Tariffs have plunged us into a Republican Recession.

Trump's net worth has been increasing more than a billion dollars a month since he returned to office, but the rest of us are not in on his scams.

#trump: "You're taking people's land away from them."

President #Ramaphosa: "We have not."

trump: "And those people in many cases are being executed..."

This demented fucker is doing the "they're eating the cats and the dogs," South #African remix

Tapper is now attacking Hunter Biden as “sleazy.” We see you, Tapper. We see all of you.

"We're the only country on the continent where the colonizers came to stay & we have never driven them out of our country," #Ramaphosa pointed out, after #Trump repeated #FarRight #ConspiracyTheories about a "genocide" of whites in #SouthAfrica.

Both Trump & Secy of #State #MarcoRubio have accused the govt of doing "terrible things" & expropriating white-owned land w/o compensation—something that has NOT happened.

Now that the US News Media has spent several days reminding us that Joe Biden is old, perhaps they'd like to address the deranged moron who thinks that "stage 9 cancer" is a thing and who isn't sure whether he's required to defend & uphold the Constitution.

If you haven't had a Covid booster in six months, I think you're eligible to get another one.
You might consider this, before the Republicans take away public health vaccines, which they're already doing.

@harrymccracken As my husband always says "no expectations, no disappointments."

#Trump ambushes #SouthAfrica's president in fractious White House meeting

After a cordial beginning, where #Ramaphosa took pains to stress his desire to improve relations w/the #US, things turned #hostile. Trump repeated his false claims of a 'white genocide' in South Africa & then ordered the lights dimmed to play videos he claimed supported his allegation.

@Jkp This one is so early, it may have to go in the bottle of dried pepper for pizza.

@skykiss Don't you have to put pressure on before putting GREATER pressure on?

REPORTER: Is the president okay with this bill adding to the deficit?

#LEAVITT: “This bill does not add to the #deficit.”

Reality:

Independent estimates from the #Tax Foundation and CRFB say the “Big Beautiful Bill” could balloon the deficit by $3.3T–$5.3T over 10 years due to sweeping tax cuts.

The White House claims it saves $1.6T but the Council of Economic Advisers hasn’t backed that up with evidence.

Bottom line?

The math doesn’t lie. But apparently, the messaging does.
