Amid some dangerous and extremely disappointing statements from student organizations about Israel and Gaza, I am impressed that University of Ottawa law students from Muslim and Jewish student associations came together to make this thoughtful and united statement. While their statement leaves much unsaid, it is commendable that they focus on common ground, in shared pain and mutual respect.

@DavidM_yeg @stevesilberman I’m with you. These comments are frightening. Unless one has lived the Jewish diaspora experience, it’s impossible to understand. And, it’s become clear in the last few weeks, antisemitism curdles many interactions.

It isn’t just older American Jews who are afraid of the rising antisemitism in the U.S and elsewhere. Jewish students in their twenties are coming to me to tell me that they are being overtly menaced on campus because they are Jewish. They are being harassed simply on the basis of their last names. Holding all Jews responsible for the conduct of the Israeli government is definitely bigoted; taunting and threatening people on the basis of their seemingly Jewish names is absolutely racist.

Can we lower the temperature? Take a breath? This week, I’ve been so very sad. I’m praying for all the violence to end. For the captives to be returned. For humanitarian aid to get to Gaza. For the missiles to stop. For Jews to feel safe. For Palestinians to have a state. For us all of us to see the humanity in each other. Please. #israel #palestinians #IsraelHamasWar #peace

Ok... I'm guessing Jack Smith's filing made the difference. Now she needs to call his ass in front of her and tell him in no uncertain terms what will happen next time he violates the orders.

Make him come to her. Make him appear and ask him on the record to answer to each element of his conditional release and acknowledge each so when he violates them she can pull it out.
