Breaking: Trump wins New York’s 34 criminal charges in a landslide.

@DemocracyMattersALot Found guilty on all 34 counts. Wow.

Now comes the real question: are there any actual consequences for him? Or will he succeed in delaying/weaseling out of everything.

Trump's lawyer Todd Blanche: We move for a judgment of acquittal. There is no way this jury could have reached a verdict without relying on Michael Cohen - he lied, in this case. He cannot be used to convict President Trump
Justice Merchan: I'm sure you misspoke

Convicted felon Donald Trump (I may never get tired of those words) is prohibited from voting for President in his home state of Florida.

But in an indication that our law is an ass, being a convicted felon is not a barrier to running for president. Presumably the founders never envisaged that their beloved Republic would sink so low that anyone could possibly vote for an unrepentant criminal.

live your life so that when the verdict comes in and you are convicted of 34 felonies millions of people don't celebrate

Spare a thought for the brave jurors in the Trump trial today. Trump is a vindictive narcissist.

@GottaLaff It’s Steve Banon all over again. Convict him and let him roam free for a year.

Just landed in Atlanta. Turned my phone on and the news is all good

Mentioned on MSNBC, the growing alliance between #ElonMusk and #Trump, as if we need another reason to question the wisdom of billionaires. My wild ass guess, besides being two simpatico egomaniacs, Musk may view Trump as the “less regulation” Maniac in Charge, and blind or indifferent to Trump’s fascist nature. 🤔🔥

If jurors were required to be #unanimous on which unlawful means (#crimes) #Trump employed, it may have been harder to reach a verdict.

Merchan explains the elements of the #felony falsification charge. He says the records at issue can pertain to a private business & can be electronic or other data.

Trump and his allies claim the criminal case would never have been brought against anyone else.

100% incorrect.

New York has a long tradition of producing corrupt politicians who eventually get prosecuted for things like campaign finance violations.

Just ask George Santos.

Justice #Merchan explains the reason prosecutors charged #Trump w/falsifying business records as a #felony: Because, they say, he covered up a second #crime, violating the state #ElectionLaw that forbids a #conspiracy to aid a person’s #election by #UnlawfulMeans.

Last week, prosecution won a major argument when they argued that the jurors did not have to agree #unanimously on the “unlawful means” (#crimes) they might determine that Trump used.

Justice #Merchan explains that the #law considers #MichaelCohen an #accomplice “because there is #evidence that he participated in a #crime based upon conduct involved in the allegations here against the defendant.”

🚨He tells the jurors that “even if you find the testimony of Michael Cohen to be believable, you may not convict the defendant solely upon that testimony, unless you also find that it was corroborated by other evidence” connecting #Trump w/the crime.
