And one is as likely as the other.  They are crushingly poor, have no army, no air force, no navy, and are up against the richest most heavily armed nation in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

@peterbrown Why do you always intentionally miss the point and then try to obfuscate or redirect? It’s impossible to hold a conversation with you. Which is why I rarely respond.

For over 30 years, the IRA were bombing civilian targets in Ireland and also in England, but they were realistically never a serious threat to the British government.

Hamas is in exactly the same position; there is no way it will ever be a threat to the Israeli state.

We don’t have to agree; we just have to be civil to each other.

I enjoy hearing other voices, because it helps me to understand other points of view.  And often I learned something I didn’t know.

@peterbrown @AlliFlowers Israel's mission (not Netanyahu, since Israel is a democracy not a dictatorship), is written in its Declaration of Independence. You can find the full text here https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Declaration_of_Independence_(Israel) but I'll grab the key point for you: "[The State of Israel] will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations."

Hamas is absolutely arguing the Jew's right to be there. When you hear chanted at all the Pro-Palestinian demonstrations "From the River to the Sea..." you are hearing a call for the elimination of Jews from Israel.

@mplawner @AlliFlowers an admirable mission. I’m looking forward to seeing it put into practice by Netanyahu and his government.  Do you think he has read it?
