The thing that pisses me off about attempts to defang regulatory agencies is they’re there for a reason. Nobody thought “what if people polluted, we better prevent that from ever starting”. The people who sold snake oil didn’t ask for permission. People polluted. People sold ineffective or outright dangerous “medicine”. Rules evolved. Agencies were needed to enforce those rules. AND NEW RULES HAD TO BE ADDED CONTINUALLY BECAUSE PEOPLE DID OTHER DAMAGING SHIT. LIKE THIS YEAR.

So, AI with no morals given every incentive to cheat, cheats?
I feel like stories like these send the wrong message. ChatGPT doesn't care about the company, the users, or anything else. It's a calculator with a personality. A very fancy one, but a calculator none the less.
We need to stop thinking of it like a person with drives and ambitions.
Or, on the flip side, we agree that it's pretty much indistinguishable from your average 13 year old with internet access, and we assume it will do all the terrible things that your average 13 year old with internet access might decide to do.
Then we only give it the power to do things that we wouldn't mind being decided by a random kid on the internet (i.e. not any important decision that affects other people's lives).

And here’s some press coverage of the post:
When people choose a guard dog, they're not looking for a friend or companion; they want a machine to turn loose on enemies--one that can inflict maximum damage.
That's today's GOP. Republican voters just want candidates who can inflict maximum damage. Likeability doesn't enter into it.
Jurors are going to be protected like this was a criminal case involving a mob boss.
This is for a civil case.
This says a lot about what Republicans are.

Update: Initial information indicates that some 133 people were killed across Karnali Province in Nepal. Several hundred more people have reportedly been injured. “These figures are preliminary, and concerns remain that actual figures may be higher, especially as the earthquake struck at a time when most people were likely to have been at home or otherwise indoors.” https://reliefweb.int/report/nepal/nepal-western-nepal-earthquake-2023-flash-update-no-01-04-november-2023-230-pm

This morning with my wife and it turned our stomachs what was perpetrated on Jews. Was familiar before this. And while I sincerely hope not all Jews agree with Israel’s current path in Gaza it alarms me to the core that a people with this history could so easily dehumanize Palestinians and rationalize their wholesale murder for their imagined self security. 😔
My Muslim loved ones would tell you I don't hate them, but you don't believe it.
My IDF friends would tell you they are taught peace and love from youth and spend more time learning combat ethics than how to actually shoot, but you don't believe them.
Palestinians begging for Hamas's ruling to end and aid, but you don't believe them.
Israelies telling you about our PTSD, but you don't believe it.
But the moment someone posts a number they invented that suits your biases, you believe them.
USA: Give the Palestinians a break.
Netanyahu: Fuck’m, I’m going grab as much glory as I can.
“I just want everybody to be treated good. I try not to get into the politics of everything. I try to get into the human element of it. I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees…I know and love them all and I do not judge.
“I just see how brokenhearted they get over certain things and I know how real they are. I know how important this is to them.”
