I grew up in Hollywood and went to UCLA and love them both—but also see the flaws and am completely comfortable with outsider critiques. I’d probably agree with a lot of the most brutal assessments.
This is just such a bad article I’m surprised it got past a Guardian editor without heavy rewrites.

There are two layers of weirdness in this opinion piece. One is the flimsy evidence. The campus was pristine. It’s an industry town. Students were open about personal branding and networking. A sorority rush was too earnest. Frat houses had dirty bathrooms. That’s it? Second is that it contradicts her premise by sounding exactly like the LA university you’d see in movies.

@gcblasing@mstdn.social “Why is this?” Religion provides the ultimate in comfort, while being used as a tool to manipulate. The real issue here, from a personal standpoint is going overboard, turning fantasy into fact and then often, dictating to others, for fun, power, control, and don’t forget profit. Which brings me back to manipulation, and/or mass delusion. 😇🤔

@tomcapuder Zero proof, who needs proof? 😇 Seriously, I feel that there is something more to this existence than a human lifetime, otherwise what’s the point? You might say there is no point, but where is your proof? Ignorance about one’s state of existence is not proof, it’s ignorance of which I believe is our state of being. That something more, spirituality is just a feeling or a hope. I refuse to believe that 0-100 years is all there is in the expanse of infinity. 😇
