I know I'm just a liberal dipweed, but can you imagine the world we could have if instead of making war we made hospitals and universities and theaters? What if all that money were put into housing people instead of blowing them up?
Imagine all that energy focussed on making things good rather than bad.

@devopscats I have some icing for your cake, capitalism will choose profits/AI over our jobs. These are the same guys who sent tens of millions of jobs east for profits (1970-present) collectively diminishing the post WWII middle class in America. The absolute only hope is a govt that actually looks out for its citizens. That is not in the business model, or bylaws of any corporation. You need a movement and votes for that. 🤔

How confident are you that your current job will not be replaced by Al?

Yeah, it's definitely not an easy decision to make and for someone like me that has no income there are nothing except for tax credits to help offset my investment in getting to net-zero

I'll not tell you how much adding #solar and/or #batteries will increase your building's resale value, but it seems to clearly do that according to multiple sources though so even if moving in a few years you can recoup some of your investment towards a stable climate at least.ecowatch.com/solar/solar-panel?

@jessta You can easily blame city councils and zoning boards who welcome development blindly, enthusiastically. Get the tax base, houses built and worry about the rest later. N of Ft Worth it was developed like this, a mess the last time we were there. 4 way stops everywhere on farm roads and such congestion. Virtually every great place in the country is guaranteed to be ruined by over developed. We’ve got to get the idea of endless expansion as a positive out of our noggins.

Every few months there is an article in the ABC about some missing infrastructure in the 'growth areas'. They never seem to address that we've knowingly grown populations in areas without infrastructure instead of growing populations in areas where there is already infrastructure.

We're building houses in the middle of nowhere and only later being surprised that these houses also need schools, trains, libraries, shops, cafes , roads and jobs.

We should be growing the areas that already have infrastructure

@stephenesherman I’d say prioritize. If the environment is top priority and Tesla is the best (I don’t know) that should be the basis unless there is another competitor that is worthy on both the environ and humanity scale, or close. It’s highly probable, regardless you’ll be supporting vastly wealthy people, but it is the hand we were given. 🤔

Is there a #mastodon consensus position on #tesla ? Obviously ev’s are environmentally positive. Personally, I despise #musk and deactivated my #twitter account a few months ago. But for #ev ’s the Tesla was better and cheaper than others we looked at, and was *actually available* … It’s a conundrum. 😞

@GreenFire I could afford to buy them, average citizens can’t afford this kind of expense. For widespread adoption, It’s something that should be subsidized by govt. Neither of the 2 companies I looked at mentioned anything about credits. In addition this kind of expense is more suitable for long term . I maybe moving soon and it just did not make sense for my circumstance. However I admit I don’t like living in a state where I’m dependent on the grid for a livable environment.

Everyone has a price they're willing to pay towards decarbonizing their lives for sure. All I'd like is for everyone to put a value on helping to provide a stable climate for future generations of humans and especially the other innocent species, but it is indeed a personal choice.

@bohemianchic@aus.social Because someone I knew introduced me to M was there. I would not say a word. 🙃 Seriously I’ve not figured out why I would want to be in any particular instance, more exposure to the “M” home front whoever is there? Prestige by association? Maybe you can educate me on the answers? Not spoofing you, I’m serious. 🙂

@LifeTimeCooking Morning G! Literally the first thing I did on arriving home last night (after squeezing kitteh) was to put my claypot on to soak 🤣. Hopefully tomorrow will be congee day. Will unpack all our stuff today and get cooking with the Indian goodies. Boy have I missed my kitchen!
Also, husband just popped down to our little local Italian deli (the best in CBR I'm told by an Italian friend) and they stock the correct lemon taralli, yay! @MarkAsser
