"I blame the father. Frederick Trump raised his children, one in particular, to believe that the world was divided into winners and losers and that there was no greater crime than to fall into the latter category. …

Referring to the second article of the US constitution, [Donald Trump] told an audience of teenagers in 2019, “I have an Article II, where I have the right to do whatever I want as president.”

And the fact that the schools had to pay a $50,000 'fine' to NOT be named after treasonous enslavers tells you everything you need to know about how little progress has been made since then.

@tultican Florida GOP win the pathetic Mr Universal Rationalization, Excuse-
Making, Have Your Cake and Eat It Too, Fool’d Ya Competition. What they forget to say, it was some immoral White Men started it, fought a war to preserve it, and a different group of citizens ended it. A lot of us have slave owning ancestors in the US, why not just say it was a horrible thing to do, I’m sorry an ancestor did this to you, and I’ll stop or ensure the blocking of equality/opportunity is stopped?

At the same time, Trump sold $8 billion in weapons to Saudi Arabia after vetoing congressional resolutions to block the sale.

If the $2 billion wasn’t payback, what was it?

Forcing Oklahomans to fund religious teachings with their tax dollars is not religious freedom. It is state-sponsored religion, which violates the Oklahoma Constitution and the Oklahoma Charter Schools Act. @americansunited

@Incognitim “Our heritage!” BS, erected in the 50s to counter the Civil Rights movement and equal rights. Human bondage and racism for $$, such a proud heritage to promote. Who are these people? 🤔 How about instead some Slavery Museums to illustrate the single largest failure of this Republic and say we are truly sorry for what our ancestors did to you?

The schools, named for Civil War figures (chosen in part by groups like the Daughters of the Confederacy), opened at the height of the civil rights movement in the 1950s & ’60s.

In 2017, Alabama passed the Memorial Preservation Act, which outlaws renaming, removing, or altering memorial buildings more than 40 years old, protecting numerous Confederate-themed monuments.

Montgomery officials paid a $50k fine to institute the new names & mascots at the local high schools.

Journalists that comment about the counter-offensive in Ukraine going slowly are not taking into account how long it took Ukraine to chip away at the Kherson Oblast after the Russians had established a foothold there.

Once Kyiv broke through, though, they established clear dominance quickly, and they took back the city.

I haven't been watching the story closely precisely because I knew it was going to be a long slog, initially, and never thought otherwise.

The breakthrough will come.

@CdnCurmudgeon You prompted me to look up neoliberal. This is significantly a worse transformation than the conversion of conservative to neocon which the latter basically heads in the same downward trajectory. I don’t support neoliberalism if and when it’s emphasis becomes propping up capitalists. However I still believe that a capitalist system with hard core regs, caps on wealth, and social safety nets could work… if we have it in us. 🤔

The homeless crisis, the housing crisis, the drug poisoning crisis, and the crisis in our health care system are all real, and they share a common cause. 40 years of neoliberalism have brought us to where we are.

Now one of the most prominent Canadian advisors to neoliberal politicians is calling for a street-clearing program of Canadian cities worthy of the Chinese Communist Party.

"Today, Donald Trump issued what can only be construed as a shot across the bow, after the Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya admonished him during arraignment yesterday that he must not commit any new crimes while on a pre-trial bond—the thing that’s keeping him out of jail before trial—and that efforts to influence or intimidate witnesses, jurors or others involved in the case were illegal."
