"Five police officers are suing Tesla after being injured by a Model X that plowed into them while they were conducting a routine traffic stop. The incident took place on February 27, 2021, when an allegedly impaired driver over-relied on the Model X's 'Autopilot' system, which reportedly gave off 150 warnings to take control of the vehicle in a 34-minute time span."https://www.autoblog.com/2023/08/10/video-tesla-driver-plowed-into-police-car-despite-150-warnings-from-autopilot/--#Tesla #autopilot #crash
@jrefior I’m not defending Tesla, but with vehicles that can auto drive, and have auto anti-collision brakes, and had spit out multiple warnings to take manual control, doesn’t that failure fall back to the driver? 🤔
@Huntn00 Of course this is on the driver. But to say it's *only* on the driver ignores years of #Tesla marketing for "Autopilot" and "Full Self-Driving" (even the names suggest the car drives itself)https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/automotive-industry/elon-musk-tesla-self-driving-and-dangers-of-wishful-thinking-a8114459525/
Still, I'll be interested to see what legal theories the officers' lawyers put forward for why Tesla should be liable
