Email tech question/help

I'd like to keep a copy of my emails on my local (windows) machine as a backup for my Gmail.

Years ago, I used Thunderbird.

Is that still what folks recommend? Other options?

@LJ Change your Gmail settings to pop 3 and it will forever stay on your server. @nlowell

@AlliFlowers @nlowell what I'm looking for is something that will store my backed up emails offline. And is not also google. (Something something eggs in one basket...)

@LJ You could use any email client, including Mail in iOS. That keeps the email downloaded on that client.
