I'm sitting here, in the early morning, listening to the wind and the rain outside, looking at flood warnings in an app.

Did you know that the name Oregon comes from the Spanish word for hurricane, huraca'n? The Spanish explored the Pacific coast, but there is a reason they didn't settle north of California. The French trappers along the largest river adopted the Spanish name, which they spelled Ouragan. English spelling of the name without translation, Oregon. If you lived here, you'd know.

@Urban_Hermit What about Ouragan, which is actually the French word for hurricane?

@AlliFlowers the Spanish marked it on a map first, drawn during a coastal ship exploration, then the French later adopted the name knowing what it meant, but using their own spelling. I saw the 15?? Spanish map in an online search 10 years ago and saved a copy somewhere, but can't find it now and I couldn't find it online before posting. So actually we are in 100% agreement.
