Follow

I’ve gotten a number of new followers lately whom I’d like to follow back, but they require a request to follow. That seems to defeat the point of this kind of social media, so I don’t request.

If you’re tooting publicly so that your followers can boost your posts and I can see and interact with you, why do you need a private account?

@AlliFlowers folks mostly just want a chance to not approve obvious trolls and spambots. Don't take it so hard

@AlliFlowers You should send a follow request then! The worst they can do is not approve it.

@AlliFlowers @SallyStrange I am with you on that.

I don’t like asking to follow somebody. And when I see somebody following me, I generally have a quick look to check they’re not a bot.

@AlliFlowers Deciding to approve who follows you is a feature, not a bug.

Is Requesting To Follow really that large a barrier to engagement?

@ClintonAnderson It just feels..I dunno. I understand if all your posts are for followers only, but when they’re public, and non followers can still interact - what’s the point?

@AlliFlowers I guess I sorta think of it this way...

Following someone is a little akin to being a guest in someone's home... I think of "Requesting Approval" like a knock on the door.

And well, it's their feed. Only their rules matter, and if they want to vet who follows them, I endorse them having the option.

In exactly the same way I endorse you having the option to choose not to

KWIM?? :-)
