In school, US children are forced, each morning, to recite:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all."
Then we leave grade school as adults and find out (maybe before we leave school) that a lot of people want to leave out the "liberty and justice for all" part, but insist on keeping the late addition to the pledge: "under God".
