As a soon to be #RedditRefugee, what's the deal with #Lemmy? My main question at the moment is how are communities coalescing on instances? Like, what's stopping 8 different instances from hosting a `politics`, `funny`, `startrek`, or `canada` community, and how do we manage to decide on where we talk about each?

@danielquinn Imagine the fediverse as a huge party with lots of clusters of people talking. You move amongst them talking. Each cluster is talking about different things. So when you get tired of one topic, you move to the next group. Sometimes by hashtag, sometimes from a random boost. @retrohondajunki@mstdn.social
