I think Hitchens did a better job than I could in pointing out how in the absence of religion, many communication countries duplicated a lot of the mistakes of religion using a repurposed economic theory. They had their own versions of priests, proselytizers, and even inquisitions.

Christopher Hitchens, one of the "Four Horsemen" of atheism from the noughties. I didn't agree with everything he said, but I agreed with that part.
