I’ve just completed having cataract surgery on both eyes. From my vantage, the procedure was simple and straightforward. The surgeon was wonderful and explained each step throughout the procedure.

The surprise was the first eye. When he came to see me before they rolled me in, he asked to pray. I explained that it didn’t matter to me, but if it made him feel better he should go ahead and do so.

As he prayed at my side, I was struck by the fact that he seemed to have more faith in an unseen entity than confidence in his own ability. I found that disturbing.
