What is the difference between Federated timeline and Local timeline? And “Home” if you’re using Toot!?
@Andyn305 Thanks!
@Andyn305 you're correct with one addendum: the Federated feed is everyone within all the Instances to which your local Instance is federated.
If your local admin has blocked or muted a whole Instance, you won't see them on the Federated feed. Same thing if you have blocked or muted a whole Instance... which is an option for individual users of which many are unaware.
@CaptBobbers @Andyn305 Note to self: do not block other instances without good cause.
That explains so much! Particularly why if I look at Local it’s almost all me.
@AlliFlowers @CaptBobbers @Andyn305 The upside(?) of a small instance I guess.
@CaptBobbers @AlliFlowers thanks for that additional information. makes sense.
@Andyn305 @AlliFlowers
Just trying to help folks who might be new here! Everyone knows there's a bit of a learning curve coming into a new social media site, we all go through it. Might as well expedite others figuring everything out!
@AlliFlowers Home is accounts/hashtags you follow. Local is toots from your server/instance. Federated is toots from every server/instance (except those your own server/instance blocks). For federated you get shown toots that are from accounts that people you follow, follow I think. Maybe local too. Not sure about that one.
@AlliFlowers as I can gather
federated is everyone everywhere
local is others on your server
home is ppl you follow
I could bevm wrong but that's what I've noticed.
