I know my tastes aren't "average", but two of my favorite mystery series are both Brit programs.
One is Father Brown with Mark Williams and the other is Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch.
Both are well written, entertaining, and pleasant to watch with minimal on-screen gore & death while remaining a murder mystery. Their main & primary supporting characters are all good & the scripts are well written.
The only negative is that there are not many Sherlock episodes.

@giascott I’m very excited about the new season. There seem to be a lot of shows so I haven’t rewatched any yet.
@AlliFlowers It's hilarious to think of the things that we get excited over that once-upon-a-time I would have not been interested in. We didn't even have tv at all for most of my life. Now, I vastly prefer streaming, as I forget to watch scheduled stuff more often than I remember to turn it on. I actually set Alexa to remind us now, as I just don't remember and my mother ends up disappointed.
@AlliFlowers Oh yeah, we love that one too! I should have added it to the list. I'm thrilled to hear we're getting a new season soon too. I'm afraid we go through a whole season way too fast and end up rewatching old seasons over and over.
