BINGO!

The police do not exist to enforce the law. They exist to enforce socioeconomic hierarchies.

@tofugolem @StillIRise1963 There is definitely food for thought here. My observation is that police are designed to enforce laws as poorly as they do that, supporting the system that exists. The challenge is us, humans and implementing a fair economic system without sinking into -I’m about to trigger some folks- anarchy 😉 or let’s say a disorganized violent state.

@Huntn00 @StillIRise1963
If the goal were upholding the law, they would behave very differently.

I'm half white. I get that white people are programmed to have positive feelings about police, but at some point you have to learn to look past that.

@tofugolem @StillIRise1963 There is a value to “law and order” but the huge issue is inequality under the law. You are right that economic realities must be considered or law enforcement becomes suppressive, and the situation is compounded negatively by racism in law enforcement. 😐

@Huntn00 @StillIRise1963
It's not just racism.

In every strike, they side with the corporate owners and never with the strikers. This is no accident.

The police do not exist to protect you from criminals, they exist to protect wealthy people from YOU.

@tofugolem@mastodon.social @Huntn00@talkedabout.social @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world All true. For me the weirdest piece of that whole puzzle is that the police have their own union. It's like they admit that it works, it has a purpose, for them. But then they want to get the benefits of unionization for themselves while at the same time denying those benefits to others.
