@voight Mountains of trash (landfills) across the country and around the world, burning millions of tons of trash, spewing into the atmosphere, or dumping it into the ocean. Waste management as it currently exists is a huge red flag that our civilization is not as advanced as we pat ourselves on the back for. In our Capitalist systems it is hard to image every pound of waste being recycled. What changes are required and necessary? 🤔
@voight “Recycled plastic” was the successful scheme to sanitize plastic as a petroleum product. Yeah, yeah, that’s it, we’ll recycle them! Except as you say they are collected as recyclables, but the joke is on us as these items are dumped in the landfill or burned. 😡
@Huntn00 the level of grist going on in our society is probably worse than the late 1800s and early 1900s in the days of the #RobberBarons except with the added twist that we’re all going down the ecological shitter, and apparently, headlong into oblivion. Which the earth will survive, but we will not.
@voight This is very possible as we stare into the environmental abyss after decades of warnings, and today with countries around the globe we are still unable to address this crisis because of our economic systems that apparently value wealth more than human life and survival. I predict what it will take is food shortages, death by the millions, a general breakdown and then we are reduced back to small tribes, we’ll get a second chance or we’ll just continue to be selfish and repeat the cycle.
@Huntn00 I’m reading a really interesting yet enraging book called They are the Plunderers’s. It’s very hard for me to want to finish because it makes me so goddamn angry how far down we’ve gone in the society. But it is an excellent book.
@Huntn00 I think what needs to be done, at least one of the multiple things that needs to be done, is we need to get rid of private equity firms, and we need to revamp our particular form of #VampireCapitalism.
@Huntn00 one other thing I will say, is that, in my work in the public sector, and seeing the goings-on that I do, I’ve noticed that most of the recycle that people think they’re putting into the proper bins, goes right into the trash, and isn’t recycled at all
