Conservatism doesn't conserve anything except a particular demographic's unearned power.
Conservative contrariness appears arbitrary and absurd -- "no masks or vaccines ever, even for my pets!" -- but it is merely about rejecting the imposition of any obligation on that group no matter how trivial.
To that end, conservatism will always embrace violence and fascism if that demographic feels like it can't get its way through the usual institutions, which are already set up in its favor.
@gwynnion Conservatism has always been about conserving the wealth of the haves. And every law created to benefit the working class has never originated with conservatives. You need liberals for that. 😑
