Every university protest against the genocide in Gaza has specific demands.

Each group wants their university to do something specific.

At UT Austin in Texas, for instance, the protesters have called for the school to divest from Israeli weapons manufacturers. I'll say that again. The school has official working agreements with weapons manufacturers that are currently being used to kill Gazans.

If your argument against students is "they're just using this as an excuse to not to go to class and just want to cause disruption" then you are either being lied to or you are the one lying to others.

If you have not heard of the specific demands and terms of what would stop the protests...

...then you might want to question where you get your news and what other propaganda you have consumed and currently believe.

@tinker Question: where were the students protesting genocide when Hamas committed genocide on Israelis. This is not to say that protesting Bibi’s terrorist actions is wrong. I guess I’m wondering how much antisemitism is involved with the protests when many of the protesters start screaming about zionists. I cannot support that behavior. Don’t they know they crap their beds when they spew bigotry and hatred?

@Janef - So genocide is a very specific term.

You and I can go back and forth on the concepts of assymetrical warfare, responses of Hamas to colonialization, power dynamics, etc. But whatever violence Hamas commited and whether or not it was justified cannot be considered genocide against the Israelis.

Even if we set aside the tit for tats and any lead up to the current situation, Israel has a nominal right to respond to violence, even in kind.

But.

Not at this extreme and not against its current and continuous targets.

There is a concept of proportional response and justified response, and Israel has gone well beyond that. It is genocide now. And genocide is never justified.

Edit to address antisemitism: Racial based responses, bigotry, antisemitism (against a person being a Jew or an Arab - both Semitic peoples), is never justified either.

Being critical even outright opposed to the nationstate Israel is not the same as being opposed to a person for being Jewish or Arabic.

It is not antisemetic to be anti-Israel.

@tinker Maybe I’m a simpleton but when someone refers to Jewish people as zionists that leads me to think bigot. As to genocide, when Hamas rode around killing and capturing men women and children Indiscriminately that smacked of a desire for genocide.

@Janef Not to mention Hamas’ charter is built on genocide. If they don’t commit genocide, they have no reason to exist. @tinker @FrankFrank

hamaSS is not just in Gaza; hamaSS-supporters also were among spectators tonight in Malmö.
