@MrFesser Of course, if you only want to stop Israelis (not Netanyahu specifically), and not Hamas, feel free to say that, too. @CrimethInc
@raphaelmorgan Hamas’ raison d’être is to destroy Israel and kill Jews. It’s basically their charter. That’s not reactionary. They have also been the acting government in Gaza for the last 20 years. So you’re right, you can’t both sides this. Hamas needs to be destroyed. @MrFesser @CrimethInc
@CrimethInc Ok, let’s look at the efforts by the Palestinians to remove Hamas. Oh wait - they’ve done nothing.
You’re still ignoring what Hamas stands for, cause it’s not to stop violence against Palestinians. They’re as guilty of that as Israel.
But enough of this conversation. We get it. You hate Jews. @raphaelmorgan @MrFesser
@AlliFlowers
It is easy to think of this as a fight between 2 great evil giants, crushing the people as they brawl, with the way things get reported. Do you really think Israel backed by the US Empire has ever faced a millitary threat from Hamas? It is a straw man to justify the genocide and land grab.
The time tested cure for terrorism, if that's how one sees resistance, is to end the occupation.
@prasoon Hamas is a terrorist organization, not a military. They have been the government of Gaza for years, and it still wasn’t enough. The only occupiers of Gaza have been Hamas. At least get your facts straight.
@CrimethInc @AlliFlowers @raphaelmorgan @MrFesser You know that it were the Arab states that declared war on Israel when it was founded? This lead to the 1948 Palestine war (the history is a bit more complex, as before that, there was a civil war with both Zionist and Arab militias fighting), which itself lead to the Nakba (which does IMHO violate international humanitarian law, there are however no court cases I know of).
The whole mess started much earlier, when during WWII the British promised the same land to two population groups (Palestinians and Jews) for geopolitical reasons.
@hinindil @CrimethInc @AlliFlowers @MrFesser let's say my sibling that moved out of my family home 12 years ago comes back and immediately goes in what used to be our shared room and puts their shit all over my bed and my shit out in the hall. I was given no warning, they just decided this is their room now. Am I a bad person if I say "bro tf, get out of my room"?
If I say that and then they beat the shit out of me, is that then my fault?
@AlliFlowers @raphaelmorgan @MrFesser
Hamas didn't come into existence until after generations of asymmetrical violence in which the vast majority of the people who suffered were Palestinians. There's really no other way to interpret the history if you actually engage with it. Just look at the casualty numbers, if nothing else.
As for how to remove Hamas from power... the only people who could do that without tremendous negative effects would be the Palestinians. Look at the efforts of the US to remove Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden from power. They succeeded, but only at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives, and they caused the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq, whereas Afghanistan is still under the Taliban today. Looking at the historic precedents, no one has any justification to say that Israel removing Hamas from power at the price of the lives of thousands of Palestinian children will make anything better for anyone. The only justification for the current Israeli military aggression (and the US funding it) is the desire to see thousands of Palestinians killed *simply for being Palestinian.* That, and perhaps the desire to steal more land from Palestinians for Israeli settlers. Don't pretend the Israeli assault is about peace and safety.
