Having been in around politics as a reporter and activist for many years now I find that I have a jaundiced view of anyone telling me to stay quiet and not rock the boat.

I talk about politics fairly regularly on my channels. And, granted, I'm not a heavy Mastodon user, but I certainly have posted here about politics. And the older generations haven't shown up for that.

Forgive me. I'm watching the country I was born in pull itself apart and melt in the defense of aging politicians who are so out of touch with the world they don't even understand what motivates young voters. It's hard to be patient and forgiving when someone twice my age can't consider basic human rights important. They should know that by now. I'm impatient. I don't want to wait for them to learn.

If you refuse to engage unless you're angry, the only way to gain your attention is to make you angry.
You could have picked any of the other political posts to engage with if you saw them. But you saw this one, because anger earned your attention.

I engaged because I am saddened by the people like you who have been fooled into thinking that the problem is a generational divide rather than the 1% manipulating the rest of us into directing our actions against each other. You have been had and you are serving the interests of those who would damage you.

I didn't say it to make anyone comfortable. If I wanted to persuade someone or reason with them, I would have chosen another phrase. I could have begged, or pleaded, or asked for respect and space... So let's take a minute to consider why I didn't think that would get any traction.
