With all the posts about #StargateSG1 I decided to take the plunge. Started by re-watching the original movie starring James Spader & Kurt Russell. I had forgotten a lot of it. The last 1/3 of the flick is forgettable but the entire world building/discovery is compelling.
The pilot of SG-1 picks up a year after the events of the film & so far I like it. Richard Dean Anderson as Russell’s character is interesting. He’s now the alpha male instead of the nerd (Macgyver), interesting role reversal
Quite enjoyed the 2-part pilot of #StargateSG1. Looking forward to watching more. Stargate was always one of Corey’s favorite shows, along with Babylon 5. He was always trying to get me to watch it but I never found the time. Maybe now I will.
Kind of exciting not to know every little thing about a sci-fi franchise, not knowing where it will go, etc. Don’t quite understand the logistics of how the gate works exactly but I suppose that’ll come over time.
The second episode of #StargateSG1 was very good. I already really like General Hammond a lot.
Okay #StargateSG1 S1 E6 Cold Lazarus was straight up great. I actually got teary there near the end. Wow.
Watching #StargateSG1 has been very fun so far. About 10 episodes in and every story has been quite compelling. Surprising amounts of character development too in such a short time.
I also love that the SG team isn’t bound by something like the Prime Directive from #StarTrek. They just charge in and do what they need to do. Sometimes that bites them of course but in general the characters have no problems interacting and also interfering with the gate locals. It’s fascinating/refreshing.
Watching #StargateSG1 S1 E10 The Torment of Tantalus - Voted the best episode of season 1 by Gateworld, I’m about 1/2 through and it’s pretty great. Breaking for the Apple Event. Will return soon and finish it!
