I'm not a tik tok user, but I'm not understanding the specific outrage over the practices of the platform, considering it seems rather similar to other platforms used (e.g. Twitter, fb, insta), as a perhaps naive person. Is there something I'm specifically missing? Is it actually/solely because they are China based?

@waitnwallflower The real answer is we need systemic reforms that protect data privacy. I'm kinda surprised there isn't a fediverse version of TikTok yet.
