@mguhlin @tofugolem At some point in our history, there were critical thinkers. They either sold out or were run out. I’ve never been convinced that telling children not to question their elders was the smart move.

The ancient philosophers were less vigorous about the application of logic to their arguments. That's how we got dumb crap like platonism or levity.

Probably not, but that's another reason not to think people were more rational in the past. That's the part of what you said that I was objecting to. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
