I had a great conversation about #fun in #education with my new community here on #Mastodon. What struck me, however, was the difference in the attitudes of educators based on the age of their students. Who (wrongly) decided that #highered students don't need fun in their education?

A little think I believe is cultural: Many professors only learn how to teach by the way they were taught. "I suffered and succeed, then I need to make them suffer" is not something we're over yet (unfortunately).
That's one of the few things that private higher ed does well: innovate in teaching to attract and retain students

Absolutely agree: good instructors are a vital. I mention private ed because they are the ones focused on teaching (instead of research) in Brazil (where I come from) and many countries. That's not to say that public Ed can't attract and value good instructors: I think they should. But the current reality that I can see is not that, unfortunately.
