"Another election night, another resounding victory for abortion rights in a red state. It is yet another confirmation that the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision has created a revolution in American politics, the scope of which is even today only dimly perceived in most national political debates."

"Literally preaching to the choir served them poorly when it came to properly understanding the state of American popular opinion. And by arguing for over 50 years that abortion is 'murder,' Republican politicians have zero room to try and sell a 'compromise' that might soften voter anger. If abortion is murder at 38 weeks, it’s murder at 16 weeks, and it’s murder at one week."

"By actually delivering what Republican politicians had long promised their voters, the Supreme Court ensured Republican electoral losses in the 2022 midterm elections, and the repercussions continue.
It must’ve been quite the shock to the theocrats in states like Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana to so handily lose the abortion issue at the ballot box."

#Abortion rights are set to be constitutionally enshrined in #Ohio in the fall
"The big news this morning comes out of #Ohio, “Voter opposition to the proposal was widespread, even spreading into traditionally #Republican territory... Fifty-seven percent of voters said nuh-uh. "
As a teen, let's say 50 years ago, my parents had a Time, Life or National Geo, with a pullout section on #ClimateChange (or global warming back then). It had world maps showing uninhabitable region predictions that now prove eerily accurate. I remember the green, livable part of N. America was Canada. That's probably their big miss, since that's on fire and on the way to being unlivable, too.
A powerful explosion in the area where an optical mechanical plant is located in Moscow region. The plant also produces military equipment.
Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant has been operating for 86 years. Its website reports that "the favorite sight of Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev" was produced there. The plant is part of the Rostech and is a leading developer and manufacturer of military optics. In 2022, they bragged about developing a new binocular for the Russian Navy.

How are your roses doing in this heat?

Sorry about the chicks. They're the best part of growing succulents for me.
Is the cactus bouncing back indoors?

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — 'turn the other cheek' — [and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore revealed. "And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ,' the response would not be, 'I apologize.' The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak.'"

Parts of Iran could be uninhabitable in 30 years due to climate change.
According to the Middle East Institute, some 70% of all Iranians might need to leave the country to survive by 2050.

Awesome to see @IceCubesApp now allows editing of #TagGroups, a feature unique to the app.
My wish would be to have the app allow iCloud syncing so that settings, including Tag Groups, would be synced to Ice Cubes installations on all my devices. 🤞🏻
Judging by the reaction to the Barbie movie here (and knowing my classically boomer aunt) she was probably just oblivious to the subtext.
I want to ask my aunt if she was uncomfortable because she thought it was racist, or *because they pointed out the racism that actually exists*?

In an essay out today in the AGU journal Eos, @jeffcorbin, Meghan Duffy, @carlyziter and I discuss the urgent need to move beyond the "it's real, it's bad, it's us" approach to climate education. What is desperately needed instead are pathways towards climate action that engage and empower students, while helping to fight the immobility of climate despair.

Remember when the Republicans babbled on and on and on about being the party of law and order and gravitas, the party of civility keeping the barbarians from the gates? 😂
