I started today with a Glasgow sunrise, so I thought I'd end it with a Glasgow sunset.

It wasn't taken this evening, but rather a few weeks back when the sky was clear and the Clyde was mirror-calm.

How not surprising. Rigorous study in China finds that " social distancing measures (38% reduction, 95% prediction interval 31-45%), face masks (30%, 17-42%) and close contact tracing (28%, 24-31%) were most effective" in containing outbreaks of different #COVID19 variants. #WearAMask

@Huntn00 Yep, I definitely agree with that last sentence. A whole lot. Back in 1965, James Mitchner in his book the Source noted the need for Israel to integrate the Arab population in its borders as real first class citizens. He ended on a hopeful note. And then came 1967 and the Six Day War. And 1973 and the Yom Kippur War. So much grief.

@Huntn00 Also, a lot of the grief in the world today was caused by decisions made by the various colonial powers in the 1800s, by things that happened with the fall of the Turkish empire at the end of WWI, and how France and Britain divvied up the Middle East, and the aftereffects of WWII.

But this is pretty much the history of the world in nearly every era when you scratch below the surface and look at the causal chains.

Power and greed and fear stain humanity so much.

@Huntn00 I know this history. Still, it was voted by the UN. And I have been railing against the Israeli government's settlement and human rights violations since the first Intifada.

But they have an internationally agreed on right to be an Israel, as much as there's an internationally agreed on right for there to be a Ukraine and so on and so on.

Hamas denies that right to exist.

And the tic-tac-toe dance between the factions guarantees human rights wrongs increasing with each round.

3/ Oy. I got that last one completely out of order. I’m starting here again:

Justice Engoron takes the bench.

He starts talking about non-jury trial, and he explains the background.

Engoron:

"I believe what happened here is that [AG] clearly checked off non-jury."

But Engoron says it wouldn't have mattered if Trump's team asked, bc the relief was equitable.

"It would not have helped to make a motion, nobody forgot to check off a box."

Habba: "I would like to say thank you, Your Honor."

Background:

The AG's office checked the box for "Trial without jury" in their notice, and Trump's defense team did not submit a corresponding notice demanding a jury.

Putting the matter to rest, Engoron says it wouldn't have mattered. Trump would have lost any such request.

As we suspected, Netanyahu was warned: Egyptian Intelligence Minister called Netanyahu ten days before Hamas attack and warned him of "something unusual, a terrible operation" that was about to take place from Gaza.

The Israeli gov is not only starving and denying medical care to 2 million Gazans, it’s announced openly and explicitly that it intends to target civilians and because of the savagery of Hamas’s attack, most of the world is supporting them unconditionally. They’ve been given carte blanche to commit war crimes. #israel #hamas #warcrimes
